Empowering Students Through Data Literacy Across Alabama
Across Alabama, more than 50 QuantHub Data Ambassadors are helping prepare students for a future increasingly shaped by data and artificial intelligence. These educators represent schools and districts across the state, bringing AI and data literacy into classrooms ranging from elementary school to career technical education programs. Together, they are helping students develop the skills needed to navigate a rapidly evolving workforce while demonstrating how technology can enhance learning rather than replace it.
Data Ambassadors (DAs) are classroom teachers who use QuantHub’s interactive learning platform to teach students foundational AI and data literacy skills through hands-on, real-world experiences. Rather than relying solely on traditional instruction, students build custom datasets around topics that interest them, analyze trends, uncover insights, and learn how data impacts everyday decision-making. Through engaging activities and project-based learning, students develop critical thinking skills while gaining exposure to emerging technologies.
The impact extends far beyond the classroom. Data Ambassadors regularly attend conferences across Alabama—and increasingly beyond state lines—to share best practices, connect with fellow educators, and advocate for AI and data literacy education. As QuantHub Senior Data Ambassador Stephanie Triplett explains, “Being able to leverage the Data Ambassadors to spread the word and reach more people than just a few of us can reach has really been beneficial in getting the word out over the last year.”
The QuantHub Data Ambassadors serve as leaders and advocates for AI and data literacy education across Alabama, supporting educators, sharing best practices, and helping drive the state’s growing data science education initiative.
Stephanie Triplett’s Journey as an Educator and Data Ambassador
Stephanie Triplett brings more than 24 years of classroom experience to her role as a Senior Data Ambassador. A veteran Career Technical Educator, she serves as the Business Information Technology Instructor at Bessemer Center for Technology, where she teaches AP Computer Science Principles, Exploring Computer Science, Computer Science for Business, and Data Analytics. Throughout her career, she has earned numerous certifications and awards while maintaining a strong commitment to helping students discover new opportunities through technology education.
Her passion for student success is one of the reasons she became deeply involved with QuantHub’s mission. Over the years, she has helped students earn certifications, participate in internships, compete in statewide data competitions, and explore college and career pathways connected to technology. For Stephanie, introducing students to AI and data literacy is about much more than teaching software—it’s about helping them discover their potential.
One story that stands out involved a student who needed encouragement and direction. After being introduced to QuantHub resources, the student began independently completing certifications and seeking out additional learning opportunities. “He really took all the QuantHub and really ran,” Stephanie recalled. “He was pulling back and coming in and saying, ‘I finished this certificate.’ I was really proud of him because he really needed that recognition.” Watching students gain confidence and take ownership of their learning remains one of the most rewarding parts of her work.

Bringing AI and Data Literacy Into the Classroom
One of the most powerful aspects of QuantHub’s platform is its emphasis on creativity and student ownership. Rather than simply analyzing pre-made datasets, students are encouraged to investigate topics that genuinely interest them. This approach transforms data literacy from an abstract concept into a meaningful learning experience.
Stephanie says her favorite part of integrating QuantHub into the classroom is allowing students to take the lead. “I enjoy letting the students kind of take the lead and create their own data sets because it is very interesting to see what they come up with and what they’re interested in,” she explained. Students move through the entire data literacy process—from gathering data and cleaning it to identifying patterns and ultimately telling a story with their findings.
During the interview, QuantHub Marketing Coordinator Abbie Merker highlighted how unique this experience is for students. “I love how the students get to choose what kind of data. It feels so imaginative and creative and hands-on,” she said. By empowering students to investigate questions that matter to them, QuantHub helps make data literacy engaging, relevant, and accessible to learners of all backgrounds.

The Leeds ASAP Summer Camp: Learning Through Exploration
One exciting example of data literacy in action is the Leeds ASAP Summer Camp. Designed primarily for elementary and middle school students who may have fallen slightly behind in math and science during the previous school year, the program helps students strengthen foundational skills and prepare for success in the year ahead. The camp combines academic enrichment with hands-on exploration, making learning both engaging and meaningful.
Students participate in project-based activities such as building guitars and launching rockets. As Stephanie described, younger students construct guitars using simple kits and experiment with variables such as string tension to understand how changes affect sound. Other students build and launch rockets, collecting measurements and observations throughout the process. “They’re going to circle back and talk about the data collected from these experiments, and then analyze the data to find takeaways from the assignment.” Stephanie explained the full circle connection, helping students understand how experimentation generates valuable information that can be analyzed and interpreted.
The middle school component of the camp takes learning even further by combining these hands-on activities with QuantHub’s AI for Space Exploration curriculum and Data Citizen coursework. Students spend dedicated time inside the QuantHub platform learning about AI, data analytics, and data-driven decision making while simultaneously applying those concepts to the data collected from their rocket experiments. As Abbie observed during the interview, students complete “an intuitive, hands-on project, and then they analyze data from the outcomes.” This combination of physical experimentation and digital learning demonstrates how AI and data literacy connect directly to real-world problem solving.
At the Leeds ASAP Summer Camp, students who have fallen slightly behind in math and science participate in a summer enrichment program designed to build confidence and prepare for the upcoming school year. Through hands-on projects such as building guitars and launching rockets, students collect real-world data from their experiments and analyze results, identify patterns, and draw meaningful conclusions.
These activities are paired with QuantHub’s AI and data literacy curriculum, allowing students to complete interactive modules that demonstrate how data analytics and artificial intelligence are applied in real-world scenarios.
Preparing Students for the Future of Work
As technology continues to evolve, Stephanie believes AI literacy will become a foundational skill across virtually every profession. While AI is often associated with computer science, she emphasized that its influence extends far beyond technical careers. Healthcare, business, education, manufacturing, communications, and countless other industries are already leveraging AI-powered tools and data analytics to improve decision making and efficiency.
“I don’t think there’s any job, any education course—I don’t think anything is not going to be affected by AI,” Stephanie said. “There are so many jobs coming that are going to require these students that we’re teaching now to have AI as a basic skill.” She compared today’s AI revolution to the growing importance of coding several years ago, noting that educators must continue adapting instruction to prepare students for careers that may not even exist yet.
Through the Data Ambassador Program, educators across Alabama are helping make that future possible. They introduce students to emerging technologies, guide them toward internships and college opportunities, support participation in data competitions, and encourage exploration of high-demand career pathways. Whether students are building datasets in a classroom, launching rockets at summer camp, or presenting projects at competitions, they are developing skills that will serve them for years to come.
