My Data Scholar Story: Noah

Noah gained real-world experience in UX/UI design, data dashboard development, and automation while interning with LunarLab

Hi, my name is Noah, and I’m a rising homeschool senior in Harvest, Alabama. This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to be selected as one of the 2025 Alabama Data Scholars. Alabama Data Scholars is a technology-driven internship program powered by QuantHub, Innovate Alabama, and statewide sponsors.

I matched with LunarLab Benefit LLC, a woman-owned UX design and product strategy firm in Birmingham, where I have helped design a dashboard to support internal sales strategy, maintain their B Corporation certification, and visualize business insights. Alongside fellow Data Scholar intern Jayla, I have learned tools like Zapier, Looker Studio, AWS Cloud Storage, and used a bit of coding magic to build a system that translates raw data into clear, actionable information.

Coming into the internship with minimal experience, I have gained a wide range of new skills—from UX/UI design and dashboard development to AI applications and workflow automation. This experience truly expanded how I think about data, not just as numbers, but as a powerful resource that can inform decisions and drive change across industries.

Beyond the technical knowledge, what has stood out the most is the community. From day one, LunarLab fostered a welcoming, collaborative environment. My mentors are always ready to offer feedback, guidance, and encouragement, and I have felt like a valued member of their team, even while interning remotely! I have even been able to shadow the LunarLab team on design and consulting calls, gaining firsthand exposure to the way client relationships and contracts are managed.

Finally, I have also had the chance to engage in eye-opening professional development sessions offered through the program. Some of my favorite sessions included hearing from Dr. Jim Locke at Troy University’s Center for AI Research and Education on the future of AI in learning. Workshops have also taught us how to “beat” modern AI hiring systems and ATS (Applicant Tracking System) with optimized resumes and how to use AI tools more effectively in our careers.

This internship has helped me envision new paths for the future, giving me real-world experience, confidence in new skills, and a network of professionals who care. I am incredibly grateful to LunarLab, QuantHub and the Alabama Data Scholars Program, and all my fellow interns for this unforgettable experience.
