9 out of 10 believe learning a second language is important, and yet only 20% of Americans can speak another language fluently.

 The notion that learning an entire language during a school career is impossible means many students shy away from getting involved. Classes filled with grammar books and dictionaries deter all but the most determined from learning how to speak Spanish or Mandarin during their time in education.
